    PMD forecasts dry, hot weather across Pakistan

    ISLAMABAD (Daily Hayat) — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast dry weather for most parts of the country on Friday (Oct 2), with daytime temperatures likely to remain hot in the plain areas.

    In Islamabad and adjoining areas, the weather is expected to remain dry and hot during the daytime. Most plain districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to experience dry and hot weather, while upper districts may remain partly cloudy in the afternoon.

    Most districts of Punjab are expected to remain dry with hot conditions during the daytime. Sindh is likely to experience dry and hot weather across most districts, while most districts of Balochistan are expected to remain dry and hot during the daytime.

    In Kashmir, partly cloudy and dry weather is expected. Gilgit-Baltistan may experience partly cloudy conditions, with light rain and thunderstorms possible at isolated places.

    During the past 24 hours, weather remained dry over most parts of the country while plain areas experienced hot conditions. The highest maximum temperatures of 40°C were recorded at Dadu, Nokundi and Shaheed Benazirabad. Temperatures recorded included Islamabad 18/33°C, Lahore 23/35°C, Karachi 26/34°C, Peshawar 20/34°C, Quetta 15/32°C and Muzaffarabad 15/36°C. Citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures against the daytime heat.

    Pakistan’s National AI Policy outlines innovation, public awareness, secure systems and international collaboration, targeting around Rs278 billion (about US$1 billion) in investment by 2030. The policy aims to train one million AI professionals and 10,000 AI trainers by 2030.

    The conference will feature a high-level meeting on global AI governance, with UN leadership and other international figures expected to attend. Major US technology firms are largely absent from the lineup.

    The agenda will emphasise bridging the AI divide, widening equitable access to AI technologies, and ensuring that the benefits of AI advance sustainable development.

    Pakistan previously joined Tajikistan’s UN mission in hosting a high-level AI discussion at UN headquarters, highlighting youth empowerment and AI-driven development plans.

    چیف الیکشن کمشنر جسٹس (ر) غلام مصطفیٰ مغل کی زیر صدارت ایک اہم اجلاس منعقد ہوا، جس میں سینئر الیکشن کمیشن ممبر خواجہ محمد احسن، ممبر سید نذیر الحسن گیلانی، سیکرٹری ایاز بشیر، الیکشن کمشنر لوکل باڈیز راجہ رشید محمود اور سپرنٹنڈنٹ لوکل باڈیز راجہ مختار حسین نے شرکت کی۔

    اجلاس میں فیصلہ کیا گیا کہ بلدیاتی انتخابات کے انعقاد کے حوالے سے لوکل گورنمنٹ ایکٹ 1990 میں ضروری ترامیم کی سفارش حکومت کو کی جائے گی۔ پنجاب، خیبر پختونخوا اور سندھ کے بلدیاتی انتخابی قوانین کا جائزہ لینے کے بعد سفارشات تیار کرنے کے لیے ایک کمیٹی بھی تشکیل دی گئی ہے۔

    مزید برآں بلدیاتی انتخابات کے انعقاد کے لیے درکار بجٹ کا تخمینہ تیار کر کے حکومت کو پیش کرنے کا بھی فیصلہ کیا گیا۔ الیکشن کمیشن کا کہنا ہے کہ بلدیاتی انتخابات کا انعقاد اس کی آئینی ذمہ داری ہے اور وہ اپنا مینڈیٹ پورا کرنے کے لیے تیار ہے۔

    آزاد کشمیر میں آخری بلدیاتی انتخابات 2022 میں لوکل گورنمنٹ ایکٹ 1990 اور متعلقہ انتخابی قوانین کے تحت منعقد ہوئے تھے۔

    AJK Election Commission begins preparations for 2026-27 local government polls

    An important meeting on preparations for the local body elections was held under the chairmanship of AJK Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal, an official press release said.

    Senior Election Commission Member Khawaja Muhammad Ahsan, Member Syed Nazir-ul-Hasan Gilani, Secretary Ayaz Bashir, Election Commissioner Local Bodies Raja Rashid Mahmood and Superintendent Local Bodies Raja Mukhtiar Hussain attended the meeting.

    The commission decided to recommend necessary amendments in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Local Government Act, 1990 regarding the holding of local body elections. A committee was also constituted to prepare recommendations after examining local government election-related legislation in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh.

    It was further decided that an estimate of the budget required for holding the local government elections would be prepared and submitted to the government. The commission maintained that conducting local government elections is its constitutional responsibility and that it was prepared to fulfil its mandate.

    The last local government elections were held in Azad Kashmir in 2022 under the Local Government Act, 1990 and related election rules.

    سفیر خان نے کہا کہ پاکستان نے ایران اور امریکا دونوں کو ‘اسلام آباد مفاہمتی یادداشت’ کے تحت اپنی اپنی ذمہ داریوں کا احترام کرنے کی ترغیب دی ہے اور یہ ترغیب جاری رہے گی۔ ان کے بقول ‘پاکستان سمجھتا ہے کہ یہ عالمی امن و سلامتی کے بڑے مفاد میں تنازعے کو خوش اسلوبی اور پرامن طریقے سے حل کرنے کا واحد قابلِ عمل راستہ ہے۔’

    انہوں نے کہا کہ ایران اور امریکا کے درمیان رابطے میں ثالث کے کردار کے باعث پاکستان کے لیے ضروری ہے کہ وہ دونوں فریقوں کو پرامن حل کی طرف بڑھنے کی حوصلہ افزائی کرتا رہے۔

    رپورٹس کے مطابق اس اسلام آباد مفاہمتی یادداشت کے تحت ماضی میں پاکستان اور قطر ثالثی کی کوششوں میں حصہ لے چکے ہیں۔ پاکستان نے ماضی میں 1970 کی دہائی میں امریکا اور چین کے درمیان رابطوں کی سہولت دینے کو اپنے سفارتی کردار کی مثال کے طور پر پیش کیا ہے۔

    یہ بیان ایسے وقت میں سامنے آیا ہے جب مشرقِ وسطیٰ میں کشیدگی بڑھ رہی ہے اور امریکا کی طرف سے ایران کے خلاف معاشی دباؤ اور فوجی تیاریوں کی خبریں آ رہی ہیں۔

    Pakistan said on Thursday that it is playing a role in facilitating communication between Iran and the United States, urging both sides to exercise restraint and resolve outstanding issues through dialogue and diplomacy. Foreign Office spokesperson Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan made the remarks at his weekly press briefing.

    Khan said Islamabad had encouraged, and would continue to encourage, Iran and the US to honour their respective commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. “Pakistan believes this is the only viable pathway to resolving the conflict amicably and peacefully in the larger interest of global peace and security,” he told reporters.

    He added that Pakistan’s role as a mediator in communication between Iran and the US made it important for Islamabad to keep encouraging both sides toward a peaceful resolution.

    Pakistan and Qatar have previously participated in mediation efforts under the Islamabad MoU framework. Islamabad has in the past cited its facilitation of the 1970s US-China rapprochement as a precedent for its quiet diplomatic role.

    The remarks come amid rising tensions in the Middle East, with reports of growing US economic pressure and military preparations directed at Iran.

    اسلام آباد (ڈیلی حیات) — محکمہ موسمیات نے جمعے (2 اکتوبر) کے لیے ملک کے بیشتر علاقوں میں خشک موسم کی پیش گوئی کی ہے، جبکہ میدانی علاقوں میں دن کے وقت گرمی رہنے کا امکان ہے۔

    محکمے کے مطابق اسلام آباد اور گردونواح میں دن کے وقت موسم خشک اور گرم رہے گا۔ خیبر پختونخوا کے بیشتر میدانی اضلاع میں موسم خشک اور گرم رہنے کا امکان ہے، جبکہ بالائی اضلاع میں دوپہر کے وقت جزوی ابر آلود موسم رہ سکتا ہے۔

    پنجاب کے بیشتر اضلاع میں موسم خشک رہے گا اور میدانی علاقوں میں دن کے وقت گرمی کا احساس ہوگا۔ سندھ کے بیشتر اضلاع میں خشک اور گرم جبکہ بلوچستان کے بیشتر اضلاع میں بھی دن کے وقت خشک اور گرم موسم متوقع ہے۔

    کشمیر میں جزوی ابر آلود اور خشک موسم جبکہ گلگت بلتستان میں جزوی ابر آلود موسم کے ساتھ بعض مقامات پر ہلکی بارش اور گرج چمک کا امکان ہے۔

    گزشتہ 24 گھنٹوں کے دوران ملک کے بیشتر علاقوں میں موسم خشک رہا اور میدانی علاقوں میں دن کے وقت گرمی رہی۔ سب سے زیادہ درجہ حرارت دادو، نوکنڈی اور شہید بینظیر آباد میں 40 ڈگری سینٹی گریڈ ریکارڈ کیا گیا۔ اسلام آباد میں 18/33، لاہور میں 23/35، کراچی میں 26/34، پشاور میں 20/34، کوئٹہ میں 15/32 اور مظفرآباد میں 15/36 ڈگری سینٹی گریڈ ریکارڈ کیا گیا۔ شہریوں کو دن کے وقت دھوپ سے بچنے کی احتیاطی تدابیر اختیار کرنے کی ہدایت کی گئی ہے۔

    NEW DELHI/KARACHI (Daily Hayat) — The Indian Coast Guard and the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad have seized an Iranian vessel in the Arabian Sea suspected of carrying a consignment of heroin and methamphetamine.

    According to investigators, five Pakistani nationals found aboard the vessel were arrested during the operation. The drugs were allegedly to be transferred at sea to another vessel associated with Tamil Nadu before being moved inland.

    Reports suggest the consignment was intended for distribution in Indian Punjab and other areas. A satellite communication device was also found on the vessel, which investigators believe may have been used to communicate with handlers at sea.

    A Nigerian national has been linked by investigators to the suspected Pakistan-based trafficking network. He has not been reported as arrested, and the allegations against him have not been established in court.

    The vessel, its crew and the seized drugs were taken to Mumbai for further investigation and legal proceedings. Authorities say the investigation is continuing to establish the roles of the suspects and trace the wider network.

    Metal, a Pakistan-based startup, has raised US$4.5 million in a seed funding round led by a16z Speedrun and Y Combinator. Participation also came from Pioneer Fund, Rebel Fund, Gaingels, Indus Valley Capital, Team Ignite Ventures and Phaze Ventures.

    The company’s founder and CEO, Usman Gul, previously co-founded the logistics startup Airlift Technologies. Gul announced the round through a social media post.

    Metal is building an AI operating system designed to assist founders with fundraising and venture capital workflows. According to the company, it targets a persistent pain point that early-stage founders face when navigating capital formation.

    As per the company’s press release, with Airlift it raised US$120 million in venture financing over three years, during which it spoke with roughly 300 unique investors. About 80 per cent of those investors were not a fit for its stage, sector, geography or check size at the time.

    According to Gul, Metal is on track for multimillion-dollar annual revenue and has posted six consecutive quarters of 30 to 80 per cent sequential growth. Those figures are company claims rather than audited disclosures.
